Registering a sole proprietorship under GST is straightforward if you keep the right documents ready. Here is the checklist we use for our clients.
Documents of the proprietor
- PAN card of the owner
- Aadhaar card of the owner
- Passport-size photograph of the owner
Address proof of the place of business
Any one of the following:
- Property tax receipt
- Municipal khata copy
- Electricity bill
- Water bill
- Landline telephone bill
If the premises are rented or leased, also keep:
- Rent / lease agreement, and
- Consent letter or No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the owner of the premises
Bank details
- Cancelled cheque, first page of the passbook, or a recent bank statement showing the account holder’s name, account number and IFSC
Good to know
- All documents are uploaded as scanned copies (PDF or JPEG) on the GST portal.
- Aadhaar authentication of the proprietor is done online through an OTP during the application.
- Keep the mobile number and email address you use in the application active — all GST communication, including your login credentials, is sent there.
