Tally ERP 9 is one of the most widely used accounting packages in India, and its built-in shortcut keys let you reach almost any screen without touching the mouse. If you do data entry in Tally every day, learning these keys will save you hours every month.

Note: These keys are for Tally ERP 9. TallyPrime has changed a few of them — press Alt + H (Help) in TallyPrime to see its key list.

5 shortcut keys you will use every day

  • F1 – Select and open a company
  • F2 – Change date
  • F8 – Sales voucher
  • Esc – Leave the current screen
  • Alt + C – Create a master from the voucher entry screen

Letters shown in bold red in any Tally menu are shortcuts — press the letter to open that menu. For example, from the Gateway of Tally, D → O → G opens the GST reports menu.

Use these from the accounting or inventory voucher screen.

F11 opens company features and F12 opens configuration (vouchers, printing, licensing and more).

Keys on the voucher entry screen

  • Alt + D – Delete the selected master or voucher
  • Alt + C – Create a new master
  • Alt + X – Cancel the voucher
  • Alt + I – Insert a new voucher
  • Alt + 2 – Duplicate the selected voucher
  • Ctrl + A – Accept / save the entry
  • Ctrl + V – Toggle between invoice and voucher mode
  • Ctrl + N – Open the calculator
  • Ctrl + Alt + C / Ctrl + Alt + V – Copy / paste a field
  • Esc – Clear the current field or leave the screen

Keys on report screens

  • Alt + F1 – Detailed view of the report
  • Alt + N – Auto columns
  • Alt + R – Hide (remove) a line from the report
  • Alt + P – Print
  • Alt + E – Export to PDF, Excel, HTML, XML or ASCII
  • Ctrl + O – Open the GST portal
  • Ctrl + E – Export the selected GST return
  • Alt + S – Statutory payment voucher
  • Alt + J – Statutory adjustment (in the journal voucher)

FAQs

Do I need to enable shortcut keys in Tally ERP 9? No. All shortcut keys are enabled by default.

What does Alt + F1 do? At the Gateway of Tally it closes (shuts) the open company; on a report screen it switches to the detailed view.

What does Alt + F2 do? It changes the financial period from the Gateway of Tally.
